We at Our Lady of the Rosary in Kellyville are very happy to welcome The Annunciation Committee to our community for what we know will be a mutually rewarding relationship. We hope to be in a position to repeat this fiesta annually.
Our own church boasts an enormous depiction of The Annunciation in stained glass windows situated above the main entrance doors of the church. These face the altar.
The Feast of the Annunciation is one of the most important in the Church calendar. It celebrates the Incarnation of Our Saviour the Word made flesh in the womb of His mother, Mary.
The biblical account of the Annunciation is in the first chapter of the Gospel of Saint Luke, 26-56. Saint Luke describes the annunciation given by the angel Gabriel to Mary that she was to become the mother of the Incarnation of God.
Here is recorded the "angelic salutation" of Gabriel to Mary, “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee" (Ave, gratia plena, Dominus tecum), and Mary's response to God's will, "Let it be done to me according to thy word" (fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum) .
This "angelic salutation" is the origin of the "Hail Mary" prayer of the Rosary and the Angelus.
On May 24th 2009, the fiesta in our church will begin with Holy Mass at 4.00 pm.
Mass will be followed by a procession with the statue of The Annunciation. During the procession the Rosary will be recited. This will be followed by music and entertainment and a wide variety of food stalls. The night will close with a display of fireworks.
We trust this will be a beautiful celebration which will be enjoyed by all who attend. I look forward to seeing you there.
God Bless,
Fr. Emmanuel Gatt OFM
